EDM601 is a universal EDM oil: one tank for sinker EDM and for wire EDM machines that run on oil, from roughing through semi-finishing to fine finishing, on steels, carbide and non-ferrous metals. It is used neat — fill, filter, top up. If you are switching from another oil, EDM601 mixes with several common EDM oils, so a changeover does not always mean draining the tank first.
The drum is the working size for regular production and costs about 17% less per gallon than the pail. It moves on a drum dolly, a drum truck or a forklift with a drum grab.
EDM601 is a highly refined mineral oil with very little aromatic content — the property you notice most on the shop floor, because it keeps smell and vapour around the machine low. It is colourless and stays clear, so haze in the tank is a warning sign rather than normal ageing.
The oil combines low viscosity with a high flash point: thin enough to reach narrow gaps and deep cavities and carry debris out, with a comfortable margin between the oil and the heat of the process. It evaporates slowly, filters well, resists oxidation and protects the electrode from wear, so how long a fill lasts depends on your filtration more than on the calendar. It is gentle on machine components and on the workpiece.
