EASYCUT UNI301 is a water-miscible semi-synthetic coolant for CNC turning, milling and grinding of carbon and alloy steel, stainless, cast iron and titanium. With about 30 % mineral oil it lubricates more than a lean synthetic, holds a stable emulsion and protects machines and parts well against corrosion. It is the steel-shop workhorse of the EASYCUT range and holds up under high-pressure coolant above 40 bar.
| Operation | Concentration | Refractometer reading (°Brix) |
|---|---|---|
| Grinding | 4–6 % | 3.1–4.6 |
| Turning, milling — steel, stainless, cast iron | 6–8 % | 4.6–6.2 |
| Turning, milling — aluminum (test first) | 7–10 % | 5.4–7.7 |
The refractometer factor is 1.3: multiply the °Brix reading by 1.3 to get the concentration. Add the concentrate to the water while stirring — never water to concentrate — or use a coolant mixer. Top up with premixed coolant, not plain water; the coolant calculator works out the amounts.
UNI301 runs at a high pH, which is what keeps the emulsion stable for a long time. A fresh 5 % emulsion starts at pH 10.1; for the first 1–3 days that can mean a stronger smell and temporary darkening on aluminum. After that the pH settles at 9–9.5.
UNI301 mixes into a stable emulsion in water from 5 to 30 °dH (about 90–530 ppm hardness) and tolerates up to 60 °dH (about 1070 ppm) in service as salts build up. In water of the recommended hardness it foams little, which matters on high-pressure and through-spindle systems. Very soft water makes any semi-synthetic foam more.

The 55-gallon drum is the working size for a shop running UNI301 across its CNC machines: at 7 % it makes about 780 gallons of working coolant, at a lower price per litre than the pail. For a single machine, a trial or top-ups, take the 5-gallon pail; for central systems and larger shops, the 270-gallon tote has the best price per litre. Small variations in colour between batches are normal. Safe handling is covered in the SDS.
The refractometer factor or Brix factor for CNC fluid concentrate is a multiplier used to convert the refractometer readings (Brix scale) into the actual concentration of the emulsion (concentrate + water).
