Collet Chuck Adapters and Tool Adapters

An adapter changes one tool interface into another, so the holder or spindle you already own can carry a tool it was never built to take. The ones here turn a plain straight-shank bore into an ER collet system — put the adapter in the holder, and it will hold anything a collet holds.

That is the difference from a sleeve, which keeps the interface and only changes the size.

Both ends have to be right

Every adapter has two, and they are chosen independently.

The mounting end is decided by what you already have — a 1/2", 3/4" or 1" straight shank for a Weldon holder, a boring bar block or a milling chuck. Measure the bore, not the tool.

The working end is decided by what you need to hold. ER16 covers small drills and cutters, ER25 the middle of the range, ER32 the largest. The two ends do not track each other: we stock ER16 on both a 1/2" and a 3/4" shank, because the shank follows the machine and the collet size follows the tool.

Where two adapters look identical apart from the nut, that is a clearance decision. A mini nut has a smaller outside diameter and gets into places a standard one fouls; a hex nut is bulkier but easier to grip. Check which wrench each one takes before you order — it is not always the wrench already on the bench.

What an adapter costs you

Rigidity, and it is worth being straight about it. Every adapter adds a joint and pushes the cutting edge further from the spindle, and deflection grows fast with length. A direct holder will always be stiffer.

In practice that matters far less than it sounds. These carry small tools taking small cuts, where the limit is the tool, not the assembly. Keep the stick-out short, do not use an adapter to reach depth you could reach another way, and it will not be the weak link.
