Anti-Vibration Boring Bar Dimensions

Anti-vibration boring bar body for deep internal turning, 2" diameter, 10xD. Alloy steel body with a pre-tuned damper inside, set to this bar's own resonance, so it holds size and finish at reach where a plain bar chatters. As an inch bar it clamps straight into a standard 2" boring bar holder. Bores from 2.362" (60 mm), up to about 20" deep — the longest reach in the range.

Boring heads for this bar

The head is ordered separately. It screws onto the front of the bar, carries the insert and sets the minimum bore. On a 2" bar the 40 mm coupling sits off-centre, so the insert reaches past the bar diameter and the bar enters bores from 2.362" (60 mm).

Five 40 mm boring heads fit:

DNMG 43 head, 93° — negative insert with top clamp, for roughing.
CCMT 43 head, 95° — boring and facing the bottom of a bore.
DCMT 32.5 head, 93° — light cuts, finishing and profiling.
VNMG 33 head, 93° — profiling with a 35° insert, from 2.480" (63 mm).
DCMT 32.5 back boring head, 93° — cuts on the pull-out stroke, to face the back of a shoulder or bore behind a narrower entry.

The heads take standard DNMG, VNMG, CCMT and DCMT turning inserts.

10xD or 7xD

Take this bar only when the bore is deeper than 13.78". For anything shorter, the 2" 7xD bar is the better tool: shorter, lighter, less expensive and easier to fit on the turret. A damped bar also works best near its own design overhang, so a 10xD bar choked up to 7xD gives away the advantage you paid for.

Clamping

A 2" bar needs a holder bored for a 2" shank — check the turret before ordering, many lathe stations stop short of 2". At 25.6" long, also check that the bar clears the chuck and tailstock with the turret indexed, and the turret's tool weight limit.
